First Test-Tube Hamburger Ready This Fall
The world’s first “test-tube” meat, a hamburger made from a cow’s stem cells, will be produced this fall, Dutch scientist Mark Post told a major science conference on Sunday.
Post’s aim is to invent an efficient way to produce skeletal muscle tissue in a laboratory that exactly mimics meat, and eventually replace the entire meat-animal industry.
COME ON THAT’S- GROSS. I guess I’ll raise my own beef. Future you ain’t looking too great.
Haha well I mean if it’s what I think it’s saying, like they grow the meat itself instead of like killing a cow and taking the meat off it, then I guess at least it should be cool for people who refuse to eat meat because they believe it’s animal cruelty and the like? Because they could eat this with a clean conscience.
Yeah. I mean, it probably wouldn’t taste as good, but at the same time you wouldn’t have to worry about pesticides and other stuff being in it.
But at the same time, there’s just something so not right about the thought of test tube food. I’d have to see all the pros and cons before I’d consider it.
